With Private Inventors too Nervous
to Contact Manufacturers, and with Manufacturers
Hating to Meet with Inventors, New Internet Service
Claims to Have Solution
Understanding the reluctance of manufacturers to
speak with every "wild eyed" inventor who comes
knocking on their door, and understanding the private
inventors' nervousness about calling the manufacturer
for an appointment, a new Internet service dedicated
to solving this dilemma has been launched by Harvey
Reese Associates, noted new product developers and
licensing agents. Called WorldInventionsCenter.com,
this Internet service creates and hosts individual
inventor web pages and, through advertisements in
business journals, invites worldwide manufacturers
to anonymously browse the site; directly contacting
the inventor for any product in which they might
have an interest.
"We've dealt with thousands of inventors and hundreds
of manufacturers over the years," states Harvey
Reese, president of Harvey Reese Associates, "and
we know how both sides think. Inventors have an
undeservedly bad reputation as being lawsuit-happy
and manufacturers are reluctant to meet with them.
On the other side, those invention companies advertising
on TV are able to extract thousands of dollars from
private inventors simply because the inventors don't
have the self-confidence to pick up the phone to
try for a meeting with a company that might be interested
in their product. I think we've found the solution;
sort of a dating service for two sides who need
each other, but are reluctant to meet.
"By visiting our web site, manufacturers benefit
because they can look at a variety of new inventions
in their own time. If they see something they like,
they contact the inventor and strike a deal. Inventors
benefit because their new inventions are seen by
a number of potentially interested companies that
otherwise wouldn't have." The World Inventions Center
receives no commissions, but charges the inventors
for creating and hosting their individual web pages
and offers free licensing advice to the inventors
as needed.
Reese goes on to state that the service, although
just launched, has already attracted the attention
of the inventor community, and his goal is for the
site to become the meeting place for the world's
inventors and manufacturers. "It doesn't matter
to the manufacturer where the inventor is located,
" says Reese, "and it doesn't matter to the inventor
where the manufacturer is located. All that matters
is the quality of the idea."
